The narrative of Illuminatia involves a utopian civilization built by humanity on a world other than Earth at some point well into the future. Many of the stories of this fantasy world might parallel those of the earthly civilizations with which we're familiar. Other stories might parody, mimic, and lampoon our reality as we know it. Some stories might reflect the worst of our fears regarding the future of humanity; alternatively, these stories might imitate our idea of everything we might hope will become of our descendants and the choices they make. Is Illuminatia utopia or dystopia? You are welcome to be the judge.
The Illuminatia Wiki will become increasingly populated with the stories of Illuminatia as the project moves forward. The reader is encouraged to read and navigate this collection of articles in the same way as one might interact with a wiki, whether that might involve clicking from link to link or using the random page function to choose one's own path of discovery. Similar to some of the most popular wikis in existence, the content of the articles contained within are subject to additions, modifications, and clarifications, so the reader is encouraged to return frequently in order to remain apprised of any changes to the Illuminatian narrative. Contributions, suggestions, and requests from readers are welcome. A framework for sharing those contributions is forthcoming.
The map
Original media: Illuminatia was hand-drawn using colored pencil and gel pen on 11"x18" sketch paper. The original drawing was digitized in three scanned segments. Modest digital editing has preserved the image after the original was irreparably modified.
Today's working version of the Illuminatia map is an evolution of the original hand-drawn map, with digital alterations that make the map's new version unique from previous manifestations.
The map of Illuminatia depicts one primary continent accompanied by three major islands, eight smaller islands of significant proportions, and numerous minor coastal islands.
Bodies of water have borders represented in blue. Elevated land features such as mountains are signified in red. Urban areas are represented by green symbols.
The story
The Illuminatia project offers these articles as an introduction to the Illuminatian narrative. These articles explain Illuminatia's historical context, establish the chronological beginning of the story, and provide an initial reference on this civilization's cultural background.
The original settlers of Illuminatia unintentionally alighted upon this previously unknown habitable planet during the course of a long-term intergalactic mission originating from Earth. This new place would be named Illuminatia.
A significant population of humans had manned three large spacecraft on a multi-generational mission across space to locate and inhabit at least one new world. The Lucidus mission sought a new world for the purpose of creating geographic diversity and redundancy among the localities inhabited by the human race. This migration and settlement was pursued as a protective measure against the unlikely possibility that something untoward should happen to Earth.
The Illuminatian branch of humanity lives on, briskly developing its own civilization. Illuminatia benefits from the lessons Earth's history provided and enjoys a clean slate, delivering an optimistic, cooperative version of humanity. Illuminatia's ancestors brought with them the best of humanity's progress and left behind everything else.
Illuminatians speak a universal language called Glossa Communi, an invented language developed specifically for the Lucidus mission and the resulting Illuminatian civilization. Glossa Communi was built utilizing a hybrid of the collective vocabulary and grammar styles of numerous historical Earthly languages. The Glossa Communi language in no way resembles the English language, having borrowed only a minority of its elements from Anglo influences. Names, concepts, and other references in the Illuminatia wiki have been translated to English from Glossa Communi for the benefit of comprehensibility for a 21st-century Earthly audience, and it is acknowledged that some ideas and concepts expressed effectively in Glossa Communi may have imperfect translations in English. In fact, some of the concepts catalogued in this wiki may have no effective analogue in English and may therefore be expressed using only inexact approximations which might hold moderately different meanings in English from what might be more accurately expressed in Glossa Communi. Although this wiki was written in English, it should not be assumed that any references to Illuminatian concepts on this wiki accurately reflect the actual reality of the fictional Illuminatian civilization as expressed in its native tongue.
