The archaeomodern historical era of Earthly history refers to the centuries of early modern epoch of human civilization on Earth which directly preceded the period during which the Lucidus mission was conceived and planned. The archaomodern historical era on Earth is generally considered to correspond to a period of time beginning in the 19th century and ending between the 25th and 29th centuries. The archaeomodern period can be viewed as a period of contrasting progress and regression in the quality of human development.

The archaeomodern historical era on Earth is characterized by political, economic, and societal structures reflecting the epitome of Earthly dysfunction, inequity, and latent human cruelty overlaid upon the beginnings of modern Earthly technological, industrial, and cultural advancement and refinement. Archaeomodern Earth reflects the backdrop upon which interest in the goals of the Lucidus mission developed. The era reflected the problematic qualities of human civilization on Earth which Lucidus mission planners wished to find ways to eradicate and leave behind by way of a more enlightened seed civilization on a new world.

Observations from Earth's archaeomodern era informed the guidelines for the prospective future development of a human civilization on an extraterrestrial world. Knowledge about human nature and social dynamics drawn from the archaeomodern era also played a significant role in the protocols of the Lucidus mission itself. Both the anxieties and the hopefulness of the Lucidus mission planners was reflected in these blueprints which were later heavily drawn upon for the settlement of what would become Illuminatia.

The archaeomodern period on Earth was considered by the people of the time to be an era of unrivaled advancement in the human condition juxtaposed with and ultimately followed by an unambiguous decline in established measures of human development. The human race made astonishingly rapid improvements as a culture, but this progress was unfortunately just as quickly erased as humanity experienced traumatic declines in quality of life and political stability. Historical scholars in Illuminatia find this period of human history to be one of the most perplexing to understand.

The planners of the Lucidus mission found their initial motivation during the period of cultural devastation that dominated the later centuries of Earth's archaeomodern era and worked fervently in the background to establish the first organizing structures that would later become the infrastructure that secretly built the Lucidus mission. These planners were inspired by their knowledge of the most impressive of human technological and cultural feats envisaged during the earliest years of the era—a period of optimism which the Lucidus mission planners hoped to carry forward into what would become the Illuminatian branch of humanity on Neonisi.
