Permanent seizure of the person
Permanent seizure of the person is the second-most severe punishment that can be administered upon a person under the system of penalties governed by the Bureau of Punishment and Castigation. The only possible punishment more severe then the permanent seizure of the person is corporal destruction. Also-serious but less severe punishments can include the permanent seizure of funds or property.
Public knowledge holds that persons condemned to the punishment of permanent seizure of the person are permanently removed from outside society with no possibility of return, are transported to a penal colony populated by persons with similar fates, and will no longer be able to communicate with the outside world. The identification and location of this penal colony, Supplicium Island, is also not publicly known.
Persons subjected to this permanent exclusion from Illuminatian society also are not aware of the location of the island to which they are transported. Measures are taken to withhold location information during transportation of the subject to the island. Subjects cast away to Supplicium Island are free to live the remainder of their natural lives on the island in the company of other persons condemned to Illuminatia's two most severe punishments, so long as they remain on the island, do not attempt to leave, and do not attempt to communicate with the outside world.
All residents of Supplicium Island, including those assessed the punishment of permanent seizure of the person and corporal destruction, are permanent residents. Residents are not allowed to interact with or communicate with the outside world in any way and are never provided with means for doing so. However, residents are free to interact amongst themselves and to cooperatively build societal structures, construct shelter and amenities, and share and trade in resources.
