Department of Redundancy Department

The Illuminatia Department of Redundancy Department (DRD) is an agency of the Illuminatian government responsible for the employment of all government personnel who acquired their positions through nepotism, corruption, favoritism, or other forms of preferential treatment and who demonstrate no particular merit or distinction that would otherwise qualify them for employment with the Illuminatian government.

The DRD exists to ensure persons who would exhibit incompetence in positions of leadership or industry do not diminish the effectiveness of other government agencies in the fulfillment of those agencies' missions.

DRD personnel chiefly duplicate the work of other government agencies, but with much less efficiency and with a diminished quality of service. Stakeholders who do not meet success engaging with the primary government agency which would normally handle their business often defer to the DRD on the off-chance that having another go at it would yield a different result.

A position in the DRD is considered to be a relatively cushy government job that projects upon the beholder no real sense of achievement, credibility, or usefulness as a professional.

Nonetheless, persons obtaining positions in the DRD primarily include family members and mistresses of government workers of adequate clout. Compensation awarded to beholders of DRD positions is funded entirely through a deduction from the salary of the employee who recommended the DRD employee for employment with the Illuminatian government.

A sub-agency of the DRD, the Office of Further Redundancy (OFR), exists to ensure adequate redundancy within the DRD in the event DRD personnel are found to be not adequately duplicating work of another government agency—for instance, in cases of incompetency or lack of performance.
