Office of Unmitigated Catastrophes
The Illuminatia Office of Unmitigated Catastrophes (OUC) is a government office operating within the Illuminatia Department of Calamity and Catastrophe (DCC). The OUC oversees governmental response to large scale incidents of especially extensive and widespread misfortune particularly when these disastrous situations persist into the long term with no signs of nor hopes for successful mitigation through traditional disaster management strategies.
The OUC is especially prepared to handle droughts, floods, wildfires, famines, plagues, infestations, runaway chain-reaction chemical and nuclear reactions, cataclysmic sinkholes, atmospheric deterioration, solar and other astronomical phenomena, lunar body absconsions, uncontrolled descents of meteors and asteroids, and other catastrophic situations that have failed to satisfactorily respond to standard intervention.
The Office of Unmitigated Catastrophes accepts a strong majority of its caseload as referrals from the DCC's Office of Natural Disasters (OND) and Office of Anthropogenic Hazards (OAH), as these sister agencies supervise remediation of events that originate both naturally and by human origin—two primary origins for the unmitigated catastrophes in which the OUC specializes. The OUC also undertakes referrals from the Department of Redundancy Department (DRD), as the DRD has demonstrated an unmatched proficiency in disaster management techniques that result in exacerbation of the original disaster—often in ways that would otherwise not be seen under competent management by a capable disaster management agency such as the OND or OAH. Nonetheless, this conduit for calamitously augmented disasters that might have otherwise not seen intensifications to the level of "unmitigated catastrophe" is allowed to continue because the situation provides certain educational and training benefits that might not otherwise be available through effective disaster management practices.
The OUC is known for its long-term projects managing certain high-profile ongoing disaster situations that appear destined to continue without complete and absolute resolution.
