Office of Resource Reclamation

The Illuminatia Office of Resource Reclamation (ORR) is a government office operating within the Illuminatia Bureau of Natural Resources (BNR). The ORR administers efforts to recycle and reclaim materials that originated from the natural environment.

The ORR's mission is to use recycling to recover any and all raw material that was previously extracted from the Neonisi planet's natural environment following the original or any subsequent use of that material. These materials can be anything inorganic or organic that originated from the natural environment, including minerals, mined deposits, other natural materials from the ground, natural flora growth, or materials extracted from wild fauna.

The Office of Resource Reclamation does not oversee efforts relating to the recycling of synthetic materials that contain no matter that originated from the natural environment or agriculturally-cultivated organic material that was not harvested from the wild environment. However, the ORR does regulate efforts to keep this material, in addition to naturally-sourced resources, from irreversible disposal or from being uncontrollably reintroduced into the ecosystem.

The ORR's most visible efforts include programs that recycle electronic devices and other machinery containing metals derived from unobtanium ore and semiobtanium ore.

The Office of Resource Reclamation seeks to maintain maximum reuse of materials to come as close as possible to eliminating landfill and other permanent disposal of refuse while minimizing human impact on Illuminatia's environment by reducing the need for resource extraction.

The ORR compensates people and entities surrendering raw materials originating from the natural environment as well as devices and machinery containing these materials based on the value of the material that was assessed when the material was originally extracted, minus a modest rental fee. Customarily, consumer, commercial, and industrial electronic devices that have reached obsolescence, successfully filled their needs, or have otherwise reached the end of their useful life will be recycled under the oversight of the ORR through various auxiliary programs when these devices and machinery are sold or decommissioned.

The ORR's companion agency under the BRN, the Office of Resource Extraction, generally increases or decreases the extraction efforts that it permits based upon the amount of material the ORR recycles. As trends relating to the surrendering of ORR-regulated materials increase or decrease, the ORE will deduce consumer and industry need for raw materials and compare that with the expected impact the extraction or harvesting of natural materials may have on the environment, taking into account the amount of previously-extracted materials already in circulation.

The Office of Resource Reclamation also oversees the return of unused or unusable reclaimed material to the ecosystem when it is necessary, practical, and safe to do so.
