Polyphonic Peninsula
Polyphonic Peninsula
Points of interest: Maestoso, Symphony, Leichte Kavallerie, Von Suppé
The Polyphonic Peninsula is the short stubby peninsula dangling stubbornly from the southern coast of Illuminatia. The Polyphonic Peninsula ranks fifth in land area among Illuminatia's major peninsulas. The Polyphonic is relatively sparsely populated, with minor coastal primary settlement cities contributing the largest population centers to the peninsula.
The Polyphonic Peninsula is known for having the appearance of having been brutally detached from the nearby Concerto Island, which is located to the east of the Polyphonic Peninsula and forms what would otherwise appear to be a logical geographic continuation of the peninsula if it weren't for the Concertino Channel, which separates the two land features. Moreover, the Chromatic Range, which forms the backbone of the Polyphonic Peninsula, continues onto Concerto Island and legitimizes the logicality of the continuity of geography from the peninsula onto the island. Current geological theory suggests a dramatic tectonic event may have separated the island from the peninsula, forming a chasm that would be rapidly filled with water to form the Concertino Channel.
The Polyphonic Peninsula is defined loosely by a line formed by one northeasterly and one southwesterly flowing river. The cities of Leichte Kavallerie and Von Suppé are commonly branded as straddling the western border of the land area officially belonging to the peninsula. Likewise, the city of Symphony sites along the northern edge of the peninsula's official area, and serves as the largest economic interactor for the peninsula's population and its limited industry. The Concertino Channel forms the peninsula's outer most easterly extent.
The largest city situated on the Polyphonic Peninsula, Maestoso, sits near the easternmost point of the peninsula's eastern promontory. Additional population centers include the cities of Purple Rain, London Calling, Thriller, and Bowie.
Descendants of the Second Multiversal Duplication of survivors from two different Lucidus mission ships populate the Polyphonic Peninsula. Descendants of voyagers from the Lucidus II ship account for the majority of the current population to the south of the Chromatic Range, while descendants of people form the Lucidus III ship form the majority in the northern half of the peninsula. Speakers of the Protolucidian languages likewise follow a similar divide, with Western Lucidian speakers to the south and Quasilucidian speakers to the north.
