Illuminatians make reference to calendar dates using the designation Anno Illuminatia (AI), a sequentially increasing numeric citation derived from the accumulation of elapsed Annual Units (AU) since the landing of the Lucidus mission in Illuminatia. A comparative designation of time on Earth would be years AD and BC.

Illuminatians use the Lucidus landings on the surface of Neonisi as the zero-date for Anno Illuminatia, in much the same way as other fictional historical narratives were used on Earth to designate the division between AD and BC. 0 AI commenced on the date the first Lucidus survivors landed in Illuminatia. Dates after the Lucidus landing count up from zero, and dates before the Lucidus landing were retrospectively given negative values counting down from zero.

A date in Anno Illuminatia format can be written by placing the Annual Units elapsed since 0 AI ahead the decimal, counting from zero. The number of Circadian Units (DU) elapsed within that AI is then written following the decimal place, again counting from zero. The figure for Circadian Units following the decimal can range from zero to just under 216, which is the number of DU in one AU.

As an example, the date 84.108 can be interpreted as being halfway through AI 84. So 84.108 will be the 109th DU of humanity's 85th AU on the Illuminatian planet, although Illuminatians almost never refer to time using ordinal numbering, as this confuses things unnecessarily in the face of a numbering system that starts with zero. While the AI symbolization might have been convenient for the notation of holidays, the celebration of holidays is notably absent from Illuminatian culture.
