Chopin is a rather placid north-central interior city. Located near the headwaters of the region's major north-flowing river, Chopin is situated on the frontier roughly equidistant between the coastal cities of Serenade and Adamopolis.
Piano playing is an extraordinarily popular pastime in Chopin, with local demand for pianos creating a somewhat notable piano manufacturing industry here. This industry gently competes with a parallel piano manufacturing industry in the distant city of Thelonious. The prominent institution of quaternary education in Chopin is the Academic Omniversity of Chopin, an omniversity which specializes in disciplines such as electrical science, telecommunications theory, and generalized engineering.
Despite the usual historical narrative of cities in the central interior region of Illuminatia, Chopin is actually a primary settlement city, representing what is currently understood to be the most remote landing of Lucidus survivors derived from the third multiversal duplication.
The ancestors who settled Chopin are among the rare Lucidus landings who alighted upon land, rather than at sea. It is presumed the relatively flat land of the interior of Illuminatia allowed this break-away from the Lucidus II ship to safely position itself for a successful landing on dry land. Chopin's earliest residents spent a considerable period isolated from other settlers before coming into contact with their peers. It was only after these first encounters that Chopin became a prominent waypoint along the popular path between Serenade and Adamopolis.
As of the 250 AI Census, Chopin had a population of 184,404 residents, making it Illuminatia's 43rd-largest city. Chopin has experienced impressive growth since then and it is estimated the city will have a population exceeding 670,000 by the 300 AI Census, an increase of more than 360% over 50 AU.
Chopin was named in honor of an ancient Earthly composer of classical music.
