The Primary Source is a popular daily non-profit newspaper and weekly magazine published in the city of Requiem. The Primary Source is unusual among non-profit publications in having a very large continent-wide readership, through its "weekly" magazine, which is published once per administrative week. The Primary Source is the largest of a cluster of southwestern Illuminatia-based magazines of this nature, an oddity for an otherwise underrepresented region, and a testament to the innate curiosity that Illuminatians share regarding a part of their continent that is often misunderstood or disregarded.
In Requiem, The Primary Source competes against other local newspapers such as the Requiem Outlook and the Voyeur Observer in the mainstream local news market, usually coming in third place or below among Requiem newspapers. However, outside of Requiem, The Primary Source punches well above its weight in magazine form, attracting readers interested in its national news coverage and its well-leveraged and highly-promoted editorial approach in acquiring facts and quotes directly from the source of the news rather than utilizing commentary from experts and other uninvolved parties. The Primary Source boasts this successful strategy in the name of the publication itself.
The Primary Source, as with most non-profit newspapers, is overseen by a volunteer board of directors representing segments of the newspaper's readership. In the case of The Primary Source, half of the members of its board come from across Illuminatia while the second have are sourced locally.
