Motto: "You are the tertiary source!"
The Tertiary Source is a daily non-profit newspaper and weekly magazine published in the city of Clapton. The Tertiary Source publishes a daily local edition which is one of the largest publications serving local news to Clapton. It also publishes a "weekly" continental edition distributed throughout Illuminatia in magazine form, which is among the lower tier of nationally-read publications in Illuminatia, attracting a devoted but somewhat niche fan base.
The Tertiary Source prides itself on a little-used journalistic mechanism in which—in addition to a nucleus of its own reporting—also publishes the fact-finding and analysis of its readers. A traditional editorial staff vets this material before publication. This method involving readers as a "third source" for news is where the newspaper derives its name.
The Tertiary Source is one of a trifecta of southwestern Illuminatian daily newspapers operating from diverging journalistic philosophic models. The Primary Source of Requiem and the Secondary Source of Rolling Stone, while they are completely independent in operations from of one another and the Tertiary Source and have no corporate relation, nonetheless enjoy a symbiotic relationship among readers across Illuminatia who are willing to pay a premium to receive all three publications as a route of consuming these dissimilar but related journalistic styles. The continental magazine published by the Tertiary Source diverges from its companion publications in that it publishes once per sociocultural week. This is different from the Primary Source and Secondary Source, which follow the administrative week.
Despite its position as having a national readership, the Tertiary Source does not capitalize on coverage of its local sportsball club, the Clapton Nutters, as the Tertiary Source as a matter of policy refrains from sports reporting. This earns admiration from a dedicated section of the newspapers readership who actively voice their opinion that investment in such reporting would divert resources from journalism involving public affairs and current events.
